I’m now so out of touch with cosplay that it surprised me to find out on Facebook today that Toycon is happening this Sunday. I suppose it’s less of a surprise and more of a realization that I have kept a safe distance from the cesspit that is Philippine cosplay for a very long time.
Of course, not everyone in this world has the least bit of decency and respect for themselves as to not associate with the biggest joke in town (thanks to PBB).
The question is, why do you still do it? This question is for you, if any of the below applies:
- You regularly attend cosplay conventions to see cosplayers
- You still cosplay
- You take pictures of cosplayers whenever you get the chance
- You fap to the pictures of your favorite sexy cosplayers
Why?
The many bad things that can be said about cosplay notwithstanding, the hobby is in the shit tier of all locally known hobbies. Let me explain a few reasons.
As a hobby, cosplay is the least productive.
As an active participant, you learn to create costumes and craft prop weapons. Guess what? These skills are WORTHLESS in real life. Just because you were able to follow a tutorial on how to sew the perfect slutty skirt or how to look like a complete fag as a guy with 2-inch thick makeup doesn’t mean you’re artistic or resourceful.
You did no better than brainless call center drones whose only competence is following the whims of their white slave masters. The days and months you spent enriching your wardrobe of outlandish outfits could have been put into picking up a new skill that’s actually worth anything, or maybe even acquire a useful technical course certificate.
As a hobby, cosplay is the most malicious.
I need no words for this one.
Everything above is done for the sake of cosplay. Point.
As a hobby, cosplay is the most disgusting.
I haven’t been to cosplay conventions in a while, but from what I’m hearing, around 60% of the attendees are now perverts who put very little effort in hiding their intent of being able to touch scantily clad cosplay sluts. Then you have perverted photographers who’d NEVER have a chance at anything with a vagina if they didn’t have a big pointy thing (not their dicks, their dicks are small) and the guise of a harmless photographer who simply wants to stuff his portfolio… with sluts and whores.

As a hobby, cosplay is the most degrading.
When you cosplay, you understand – even if you don’t admit it – that you’re a worthless piece of trash that will only ever get attention if you took the persona of an anime character which already has an installed fan base. If you weren’t Hatsune Miku or Naruto or Random Anime Girl With Panties Showing, no one would even LOOK your way.
It’s all subliminal. It’s all in the subconscious.
If you swear to Alodia or some other cosplay god or goddess that what I’m saying does not apply to you, believe me, it will soon enough. Look at Alodia and Myrtle. Without cosplay, what are they?
As a hobby, cosplay is the most stupefying.
A normal person’s reaction to cosplay is “WTF?”, and rightfully so, because cosplay is inherently indigestible to the decent man. In all corners of the world, you will find people who mock and laugh at cosplay, and they have every reason to. Seriously, who thought of dressing up as anime characters then using that tomfoolery as a springboard for unleashing the cosplayer’s inner attention whore? Some things are best left in the closet.
Why?
Why do you still involve yourself with easily one of the most pathetic fads of the century? Maybe it’s time to grow up. Maybe it’s time to finally understand that there are better things to do in life. Or maybe, that’s really all you’ve got. Maybe you’re a despicable loser that the world can do without.

I cosplayed once in a convention with a friend as two characters of Persona, none recognize us but we had fun, we were together and bought things so that’s okay. You’re right, if you’re not someone famous, if your character is unknown by the others it wouldn’t be funny like before… but who’s fault? Everyone can say: “It’s Alodia, Abundo, Myrtle, Chienna, society…” Yep, they are but also us… we permitted everything of this.
I find hilarious how Alodia was like us, i read on DA that she wanted to become a judge because normal people before couldn’t, they were privileged, well she doesn’t know that she became what she wanted to destroy…
If we really care about cosplay scene, we should show our true passion withouth being called “cosplay hipsters”.

I’ll be mocked right here but I still go to Cons and such. First I don’t know anyone personally who’s a cosplayer, let alone being into anime. Second, it’s fun to see characters coming into the our 3D world to some extent. It may not be 100% true to the character but if the portrayal is great enough, then that’s.. well, great.
Although the ugly sides are becoming more and more apparent now that Cosplay is being shown to mainstream TV. It somehow makes me think, Is it really worth the money?
Compared to other events, Anime and cosplay cons are expensive.. Tickets around 150 and up. Sometimes I think we’re being ripped off when in reality bulk of the merchandise in cons are bootleg goods. There’s also no significant personalities like japanese mangaka, guests from anime companies or seiyuus to make it more of an anime or japanese culture event
Thieves, perverts, opportunists and people who don’t seem to know respect and the shit they’re attending spoils the fun.
I’m not sure myself if I’ll still continue attending cons in the next 3-5 years. Maybe one day, it will be so shitty that I’ll stop going to these events all together.

Animé Explosion back in 2000 lang yata ang may maraming guests na Japanese mangaka/artists. Aside from Yuu Watase, andun din yung sa Hell Teacher Nube. Can’t remember the others but I still have the paper where they signed their autographs. And although it was held in Megatrade Hall and there were lots of attendees, no stampede happened because people were giving, decent and responsible. *Cue music “If I Could Only Turn Back Time”*

Oh yeah, regarding those 3 “cosplay” pics.
I couldn’t help commenting on them since it’s the firs time I saw these.
The 2nd one might make sense if the character’s they’re cosplaying came from a Shouj-Ai series. I don’t know every title out there so I could be wrong.
As for the kissing 1st one. It’s just wrong. Homosexuality is a touchy subject and not everyone has accepted it yet. That yuri kiss seems to be in a public place too. Unless there were practicing some sort of weird CPR exercise, which is highly unlikely, it’s just wrong!
As for the last pantyshot pic, I’m amazed this didn’t reached the PNP children’s desk at all. Unless I’m wrong and that girl is already 18, it’s just wrong. Our society seems to be quite conservative and flashing your underwear in public like that.. eh..

Anyway my last con (as I’ve written in our blog) was Cosmania last year. Apart from the disorganized way our water bottles were returned, the event was fine. Spacious venue was definitely spacious, and people were sorta still friendly. I went in there on my own, without any knowledge of bumping into my acquaintances or friends, and I did have some fun anyway.
Other than that, the other cons I’ve glimpsed at (looking at you, Ozine 2012), it’s still the same crowded shit full of BO and bad-mannered morons who traded in their common sense for some 15 seconds of camera time. Could care less for Myrt/Alodia and the others, but if the lowest common denominator crowd will make my experience shit because of those two, I blame the crowd, not their person-on-a-pedestal.
It’s like the WWE Circa 2007-onwards when you exclude the awesome stuff. It’s just same-old , same-old.

And now so far I only have 5 gundams since I’ve been seeking for katana themed Gunpla (I like katanas and they look so good in Gundams – and 2 out of 3 of mine are katana-themed)

While it may not be THAT productive, It still is in small ways. Maybe not in the Philippines but you might end up contributing to props-making and the like for movies. Correct me if I’m wrong but the MythBusters started out as special effects folks for movies and you gotta hand it to Tori when it comes visualizing their…err…. projects. You might actually learn a thing or two that may help you in the film industry or advertising industry through cosplay, but then again, as I’ve mentioned, most probably NOT in the Philippines and not via the Philippines-”cosplay” scene.

recon report on toycon: 70% jeje , 30% con .
Saw long lines for the meet Alodia and Ashley thing , those poor souls. The look of dissapointment on their faces when Alodia and Ashley left to go onstage was pitiful at best . And full of fantard rage . Again I was a victim of bad timing as the location i was standing in was in the path of Alodia’s entourage as they wisked her offstage , worse of all I had my back turned so I didnt notice that they were pushing everyone aside , until the very last moment . Overall the cosplayers consisted mostly of same old jejeness , I was hoping to see some Jormungand or Upotte cosplay , or something currently airing at least , but alas there was none but the same old crowds . One group even had a tarp with “Cosplay Elite” emblazoned on it , I could see the cosplay , but I couldnt see what was so elite about it. As they looked like everyone else in the area. Same old jejes blocking the hallways , same old photogs taking sniper long range stolen shots of scantily clad young women , same old crowd full of bleach and narutards . Same old cesspit . I havent gone to toycon for some time , so I decided to return again to see If I could find a nice fig , and check if the cosplay scene has improved a bit . Seeing as it was the same old pit , I may swear it off forever . But hey . Thats just me . If anyone has any violent reactions to my opinion , go ahead . Because just like today’s con , I wont give a shit about it. (But Id like to read them for the lulz and giggles of course )

Knowing how big AFA is, ASA pang hindi makikisakay ang mga big media entities like the Kapamilyuck channel to make it happen. If may mga foreign cosplayers na pumunta, garantisadong yung mga jejes will waste no opportunity to fap to them. This is may be an attempt to bring in more tourists, but not when you place those cosplayers at the risk of being hit on by the community’s Pervs Gallery.

There’s more to our jobs than answering phones and “acting like drones”. Before you criticize our job, I’d like to see you survive 6 months in it.
Moving forward, I was at the ToyCon last Saturday and while the MegaTrade Hall was packed with people purchasing merchandise (some were overpriced, IMHO). A lot of cosplayers simply decided to just hang out in the mall hallway,and do what they are best at: being a major nuisance.

I have a question. Why call center, and why as an agent? I mean, it does seem tough, and the belittling of your choice of industry is undeniable – so why did you choose to become a call center agent? If the woes are comparable to other jobs that experience less ridicule, why and how did you land this job? Is the money quicker here, did you not have any other options, etc?

First of all, just because I mentioned that I work for a call center, you people immediately assume I’m an agent. Just like any other line of work, this industry requires supervisors/trainers/quality assurance/executives who make sure the business runs smoothly.
I for one chose this industry because the pay is better and career growth is faster. I’ve experienced working for a multi-national company for a number of years after I finished university, man, kung hindi ka ata kiss ass or may kamag-anak hindi ka mapo-promote doon. Plus the mere fact that I’m a woman working in a patriarchal company diminishes my chance even more.
Majority think that just because they have a good command of the English language, surviving in a the BPO industry is a cinch. Yes, they can survive but they don’t last long in a company.
In the past I’ve handled cosplayers as members of my team. Lahat ng dahilan kapag may event narinig ko na ata. Meron pa nga diyan magpo-post sa Plurk na nasa event maski critical working day pero ang paalam nasa emergency room. This is quite a lengthy post, but I guess it’s safe to say that cosplayers have no sense of work ethic whatsoever.

You have to forgive everyone for the assumption. The article by implication points to the direction of an agent, when you said you worked in one, everyone will assume that.
This kind of renders my question moot since you’re not an agent. Anyway, are you a TL? My friend is one and the stress is unimaginable. Why she stays as a TL is beyond me. She’s accountable for every member, very often driven to the edge by unreliable agents. But she says the pay is good and the promotion is fast. She says that in this industry, it’s a fair game for everyone, so I learned to stop arguing.
Anyway, did you start as an agent and performed really well to get promoted, as an HR or entry level manager/supervisor?
I understand the sentiments with patriarchal companies, I actually work in a profession dominated by men, and it is quite difficult.
I’ve never worked with cosplayers before, I don’t think I will ever. I actually keep to myself that I used to be one since it’s quite a bizarre hobby to have in this profession, haha.

Prudence: I think well, the comparison was made because as with everything else in the Philippines, once the idiotic masses seize their hands on a big thing (in this case, let’s mention the BPO industry), it turns to shit.
Having worked in said industry once (yes, I’ll go ahead and say that I was once an agent and I still have mixed feelings about it), I’ve witnessed the usual masa types do what everyone has said about its workers (heavy chain smoking/drinking/jumping between companies for the signing bonus/the really questionable lifestyle) and give it a generally bad impression on anyone.
On the other side of the coin, I can totally see where you’re coming from. I did actually work with people who know what the fuck they’re doing and reached insane heights or at least created a stable life for their families.
Just my 0.02 on your initial post of course.
Moving on to toycon stuff, is it just me or is it that I’ve heard a lot of reports on teenagers having their phones stolen/lost during the event itself, inside the venue (i’ve read a few posts on my feed telling that her phone(s) got stolen twice, on the days she went to toycon). As much as people tell me that the crowd issue last year was settled, I think it got way worse. Or SM Mega /Event Admins decided to stop giving a fuck already. Or the cosplayers who lost their phones were really irresponsible. Either way, everyone’s loss IMHO.

di naman sa magreretire, pero dahil season na ng pagdayo dito ng mga koreano para magaral ng english, yun muna gagawin kong trabaho, yung sa cosplay commissions, di na muna, baka bandang end of year or pachani chani, siguro isang costume per month nalang.
gusto ko yung idea ng transformable na costume kung sa unicorn, may dinownload ako na paper craft nung unicorn, kaso dahil busy din so di ko rin gano mapagaralan, so far yung sword/bow ni serah sa ff13 yung pinag experimentuhan ko sa mga joints kung kaya na transformable. ayun okey okay naman, tinatry ko rin muna pagexperimentuhan yung sintra. nakakatuwa kasi magbutinting ng mga ganung tipo ng mekanismo, kahit di naman ako kumuha ng mechanical engineering. x.x yung challenge na masolve yung puzzle kung pano gumagana yung ganung simple machine ay nakaka thrill talaga tsaka nakaka excite masolve. That, my boy, is the ultimate mecha cosplayer’s dream – I’ve been hearing someone say it sa cons whenever some guy rolls out his Wing Gundam Zero Custom cosp. As for Unicorn/Banshee na transformable, it has to be something na sobrang kaiinggitan ni RB Cheng at magpapakamatay siya if he doesn’t replicate it – I know the Unicorn Destroy Mode he sported sa D15Guise last year sa Ateneo; imagine the standard Unicorn suddenly lighting up and becoming Destroy sa harap mo. I have a lot of theories on it, and if such a knock-em-dead costume elicits a “fail” from douches like Quakey, he can suck cock.
As for the cosplayer’s humility, whoever suits up as should be quite the character na talagang his own man – the kind na kahit kailan hindi mo makukumbinsing pumanig into any cosp clique (especially around Alodia) and brooks no bullshit from photographers or kahit sinong gustong magpakuha.

May napansin akong nag-Steven Seagal nung Toycon Sunday. As in yung suot niya nung naglaban sina Anderson Silva at Vitor Belfort tapos sa post-fight interview kine-claim ni Steven Seagal na siya ang nagturo ng front kick ni Anderson Silva na nagpa-KO kay Vitor. I don’t know kung talagang cosplay yun. Pero sayang, di ako nakapag-papicture dun. Para may mala-Gene Lebell vs Steven Seagal shot ako.

— undoubtedly crowded
— too many unrehabilitated imbeciles
— full of pervs and whores
— very few true-blooded-yet-not-so-creepy otaku
*** so why still cosplay on or attend cons? ***
— when i cosplayed, it was mostly a stress-reliever and it was something that only a few people did so when my colleagues found out about it they thought that it was an awesome thing. kakaiba = astig! sikat ka! pero ngayon, whenever they ask me why i stopped, i tell them “i love mankind. it’s the people i cant stand.”
— i can still cosplay, but you wont find me anywhere near crowds. i’ll just take part in photoshoots. no hassles.
— there are some hobby-related “treasures” that are only available in conventions. i attend to buy gothic clothes and accessories that are absent in regular department stores.
— the “foreign” guests are some people to look forward to. i really loved the VocaFusion guests and hosts (especially Osamuraisan and Maid Macho).
— organizers are in it for the money, but i still believe that a few of them actually care for their guests and patrons. piling-pili lang pero meron pa rin.
— i just ignore squatters so my day wont be ruined. inangasan ako ng isang marshal sa VocaFusion (gusto kasi niya i-delete yung photos na kinuha ko), i glared at him and he left. hahaha! later that day, yung marshal na kakilala ko sinabi sa akin they really had a policy regarding restricting photos of their guests.
— knowing at least one of the organizers has its privileges. :)
*** cosplays, call centers and agents in general: ***
— im beginning to think that GT had been bullied by agents before. LoL!
— i disagree that sins originated in the BPO industry but this is where they’re kinda prolific, yes. kaya nga it’s best to know the bunch you’re going with and determine if you really want to be with them or be like them. sa tinagal ko dito, hindi pa rin ako marunong magsigarilyo. although, it was my first time to drink and get drunk last year. XD
— regardless of what people’s reasons are for entering the industry, it still boils down to money and benefits. some of those i’ve met and i’m working with use this as a stepping stone for career growth in the IT biz. at saka, swertihan lang sa company. some BPO even offer scholarships. dito sa amin, reimbursable ang CCNA and CCNP exams. it’s a good catch for people who dont have nuff cash-on-hand to get these certifications. anyway, these are just samples. im sure madami pang goodies sa iba kaya nagi-stay pa rin sila sa call centers. kanya-kanyang trip lang. walang basagan basta walang naaapakan.
— i have only encountered a few cosplayers in this industry and, so far, none of them skipped work just to attend cons. they file leaves if necessary. i did that too.
— if you wanna ask.. no, im no longer an agent nor a supervisor. but yes, im still in this industry.

I saw that Mr. Pogi contest in Eat Bulaga earlier. There was a contestant who claims to be a cosplayer and calls himself Cosplay Prince.

Titles here, titles there. Come to think of it. Yaya Han and Maridah of the USA, Mr Kaname & Aira of Japan nor Megami-Shiawase of Ukraine never had titles. I could go on with the popular cosplayers from other countries but non of them seem to have silly titles like what we have in this country.
Even Alodia’s page in Otacool 2 has no title stated. Just her name: Alodia Gosiengfiao! No goddess titles whatsoever!
This is a sad reality here, thanks to the media exploiting the hobby. They’re treating like it was some kind of professional sport when in reality it shouldn’t.

Somehow, wala naman talagang masama sa titles. Basta wag lang yung mga tipong “The youngest professional cosplayer” or “The Goddess of Cosplay.” Pili na lang kayo ng medyo catchy pakinggan and not something that sounds cocky.
At para naman ma-exploit yung mga titles na iyan, lagyan na rin ng theme na parang Japanese pro-wrestling (puroresu) kagaya ng HUSTLE (ハッスル) wrestling promotion (dun sina Hard Gay, Captain Hustle/Naoya Ogawa at Bob Sapp) at ng Inoki Genome Federation.

Toycon was horrible. Halls were filled with car show models with massive boobs yet inaccurate cosplays. I hate it. And now, I’m packing my bags to where real geekiness reigns now. Comic conventions.

Back then , I go to Cons not only for goods/items but also for events and cosplayers, nowadays ,(best example, TOYCON 2012) I dont feel like going into cons anymore, usually i go to 2-3 days of the con, now I cant even stay in one day, I heard people going crazy during the 2nd day of toycon , hearing comments like, “Pinunta ko lang dito ung “cosplay goddesses(with slang)”" , “Ampangit ng cosplays, buti anjan ung sisters,” , “Uy naka wig oh, tara picture tayo” …..
What they said was true, things change faster than you expect it to be , I feel disappointed, the only thing great at the cons was cute goodies/items and the trash-talking host(I gotta admit, his jokes were hurtful yet funny) . Other things like the sisters, Sarah G.?(Yes, she was there,…in a freakin costume too..) , and pervographers who block other people’s camera view just to take their “Purrfect” pic….like Loki Heart as Lightning from FF XIII-2 , we were taking pics, yet this a**hole always block our view, standing in front of us, when he clears out the view, he goes to the cosplayer and makes her do some poses,that he wants …
I dont feel going into cons anymore, I know they’re “IN” to our generation , but do they really go to cons because they really liked it? or just to be “IN” or to cope up with friends ….I know its free for all , but some might want to do some research or reading first before going to one ….like an akatsuki cosplayer going to a Vocaloid themed event
also, lately, I noticed that PBB is getting a little bit Overrated, for me, I’m getting suspicious, i think its scripted, like the fact that myrtle already made an impact on Hero TV before going inside the house, and Kit and another male housemate were models for RPN before, also, i see that myrtle might win , since many people vote for her just because she’s a cosplayer, “Oh look, a cosplayer on PBB< elt's vote for her…" , many sources say that myrtle isnt like that before going inside the house, most of them said that she is putting on a mask , to show how good she was or kind she was….sigh…
I guess its safe to say that in our current time, Things, in the Cosplay world in PH ,are getting sh*ttier by the minute…

I’m not against any cosplayer, but please show some decency, wearing a frilly mini skirt isnt exactly as you call a “Gothic Lolita”, I know each person has their own vision and render, but WTH? gothic lolita, mini skirt with laces and frills? more than 4 inches above knee? ANd also, I can still see some cosplayers treating Megamall’s security guards as if like they were pests , these people never learn do they? One day , what you did will also be done to you, what goes around , comes around…

Let’s face it. Cosplay in the Philippines is trash. Majority (or possibly even all) who participate are just seeking for attention, a little photo session here and there, and most of these people are present for the whoring and everything else that doesn’t really have anything to do with cosplay.
